How would you like to make a difference in the life of a public school students?
For the second year in a row, Six Apart is participating in the DonorsChoose.org Blogger Challenge. The challenge runs all throughout the month of October, and we'd love for you to participate along with us. Just as we did last year, Six Apart is sponsoring the award for the bloggers who reach the most kids.
The Blogger Challenge is a friendly contest amongst bloggers to raise money for low-income public schools. Here's how it works: teachers from all over the country post items for which they would like funding, such as writing supplies for a journalism class, equipment for a science lab, or music instruments for a band class. Bloggers choose their favorite projects and link to their challenge page in a post or via a giving widget on their blog. The bloggers who raise the most money or reach the most kids will win an award.
Here's how you can participate:
- Go to the Donors Choose Blogger Challenge page and find a blogger's giving list you'd like to support.
or
- Set up your own challenge and let your readers know in a blog post or by installing the widget (it just takes a few clicks).
No matter which way you choose to participate, you should feel incredibly proud of yourself for helping to bring resources to students in struggling classrooms.
Donors Choose will announce the results in early November, and we'll reveal the winners of the Six Apart award for bloggers who reached the most students shortly thereafter.
Are you going to accept the Blogger Challenge? Tell us about it (and link to it) in the comments!
What’s a simple thing you could do to save money, but are unwilling (or unable) to put to practice?
Sponsored by Microsoft Small Business.
Where do I start?
1. STOP with the daily Dunkin Donuts coffee. Seriously killing my budget.
2. Bring lunch to work instead of eating out, which not only drains my wallet but also my gas tank.
3. Get a library card instead of buying so many books (though, to be fair, a lot of the books I'm interested in reading aren't available at our local library. Besides, there's always BookMooch).
The BlogWorld & New Media Expo in Las Vegas on September 20th and 21st is the largest blogging conference in the world and Six Apart, Vox's parent company, will be there in full force. The only question we have is: Will you be joining us?
If so, we hope you'll be sure to attend the opening keynote where Six Apart's CEO, Chris Alden, and VP, Anil Dash, will speak on "The State of the Blogosphere." Considering over 12 million American adults currently maintain a blog, and over 57 million Americans read blogs, we're very curious to find out what they have to say!
There are so many amazing speakers and panels at BlogWorld, we know you'll be incredibly busy, but we'd really love to meet you, so please take time to stop by the Six Apart booth and introduce yourself. While you're there, you can meet other Six Apart Voxers, learn more about our new website, Blogs.com, and get any questions you may have answered.
Are you attending the BlogWorld Expo? Let us know in the comments.
See you in Vegas!
VOTE FOR ME. I will love you forever. There is no greater thanks I can give, other than the gratitude of my 5th grade students...and cupcakes, natch!
Finally, an actual post! Not one of those QOTD, either. Wow, huh? lol. I want to make this a weekly habit. I'm gonna try to at least. I know I've attempted this how many times, but end up failing. Now that so much is happening with our family, I'd really like to jot it all down before I forget.
Today is Friday which we always look forward to like most of y'all. The Mister's work has designated today a "down day" since Monday is a federal holiday. Four day weekend, woot! He's doing all the errands for today so I can rest easy until later. <3 Lulu & I also look forward to Fridays because it's "Dress Down Day" at her school. They wear uniforms, but for $1 (goes toward classroom funds), she can wear non-uniform attire. Today, she has on a Gymbo polo and a denim butterfly skirt-all. So cute. :) I should actually write something up about her starting Kindy. I started a post a few days back, but have yet to finish it. Procrastination is my middle name. :P
Later today we're heading out with friends to go bowling and then probably head to their house or ours to play some card games. They are awesome! Sun is such a good friend. We txt each other all the time and she's majorly in love with both the girls, which they of course, reciprocate. What's so great is that because of them, she's taking child devolopment classes to start up a daycare service in her home. She's really excited about it and shares with me about what she's learned. I'm uber happy for her. :)
Saturday morning we're going to visit a fruit orchard. Lulu has been bugging me all summer about picking fruit from the "Earth" and not from the store. The farm is finally open, so we'll be driving there to enjoy harvesting fresh fruit and have a good time. She's been really into caring about the planet which I absolutely love because I'm such an enviro-nerd. :)
Sunday, I'll be prepping things for Lulu's birthday the following day. She is so excited about being "5" and becoming a "big girl". Her theme this year is My Little Pony. At first it was butterflies because that is her very favorite insect, but then she saw the Ponyville Rollerskate Party Cake and wanted that, too. She was flip-flopping for awhile until I made the final decision for her. I figure that, next year, she might not be into MLP as much as she is now so we'll do that while she has an interest. I've incorporated butterflies into her theme and in her gifts, so it's not a complete loss. Next year we may just have an all-out butterfly extravaganza. We'll see. :) In the end, she'll be a happy chicky.
I cannot believe she's going to be FIVE. That is half a decade people! I can still remember Dr L laying her on my chest for the first time. The euphoria I felt when I laid eyes on her. My little long legged baby is now blossoming into a beautiful little dancer. I'm looking forward to a lifetime of celebrations with her. I, honestly, and truly love being a mother and am so thankful to have her and Minn in my life. :)
And lastly, I just had to share this funny with y'all. Click on the picture for a better description.
Hope everyone has an awesome weekend! I know we will!

What are you looking forward to this week?
Looking forward to my baby girls 5th birthday on Monday (Labor Day)! I'm still counting that as part of the weekend since it's a holiday. :) Also this weekend, hanging out w/ friends and visiting a fruit orchard. Busy days ahead!
